Punk rock music almost universally involves about three chords and rapid repetition. It’s the musical genre that taught me for good that uptempo music is the most fun kind, great for parties and dances. Since it is only working with a few chords and conducting its basic business around cascading riffs, punk rock wants to be loud, visceral, and ever on the verge of ecstatic collapse. The personal imprint of the individual players becomes important and noticeable. For the guitarists and bassists, sometimes even better results can be achieved with an amplifier that has been damaged in some way.
