Adventures in Kensington (with Bomarzo)

Super loveable Canadian tennis sensation Leylah Fernandez
(currently playing her heart out
at the National Bank Open in Toronto) 🥰

As I have grown to hate going into coffee shops and cafés before I'm even awake, this morning I drank two high-octane-roast Nespresso coffees—the aptly named Intenso blend—as I went about writing and recording a 21st century blues for voice and guitar called "Epstein in Hades and the Pollen Outlook," which you can find over at the Jason Philip Wierzba Bandcamp and which was a pleasure to execute; I believe it in all humility to be one of the funniest things I've ever done with a guitar, my mouth, and my racing thoughts. I'm determined to force us all to laugh and make merry, beset though we are by the horrors. After that I went to my favourite A.A. meeting and shared, in part, about how my increasingly short temper increasingly makes an ass of me. You'd think I'd learn! Following the meeting, which was excellent as usual, I went for a little adventure in Kensington and treated myself to a bratwurst at the little silvery food blimp outside the Plaza Theatre. My right foot hurts like a motherfucker today, but I nevertheless enjoyed myself quite a lot.

...

What was I bringing to Florence, the capital of beauty, what was I bringing except my ugliness, my misfortune, my insult, my displacement in the world, my yearnings for love and friendship and the certainty that clear joy was forbidden to me, because where I appeared, there was my shadow of a clown, of a vain Punch, staining the soil with derision.
